Real racing club Santander: season 4 review
It’s been a some what successful season for Racing with them ultimately finishing 9th with 57 points in the league. It seems like an impressive feat for a newly promoted club however they have been lacklustre after their fantastic start to the league.
We join Rafa Domingues “since our update from April we had a very inconsistent final run, we lost to Barcelona 2-1 away at the Nou Camp and continued this bad run of form with 2 wins out of 6 matches in the month.
This includes a good 2-0 home win against Sevilla and a 2-0 at home to Atletico. in the final month of May we got 2 wins with a 2-0 win at Malaga and a 2-1 at the Yellow submarine, although we lost against Real Sociedad 4-0 at home.”
I’m still playing with a 3-5-2 with passing football at the core of my philosophy, I’ve made some slight adjustments with Aurelio in CM not on free roam as we loss stability in midfield. Also I’m working on trying to not hesitate when chances offer themselves and take shots on goal to pressure the keeper.
I felt the last point is why we lost points against the smaller teams in the league.

Player Of The Season:
Jesús Aurelio(CM): he’s had a great season in midfield with him raking up 7 goals and 10 assists which is not bad for his first year in la liga, Jesús seems to be really stepping up in the squad.

I think we can try and give a push for a European place, if we can cut out some the mistakes and develop some of the younger players a bit more we have a chance.

Saturday Discussion Thread: UEFA European Cup/Champions League Finals (1956-2019)
With the world of football still on hold, we have decided to host a series of discussion threads each Saturday, on a particular topic within the game.
Following last week’s thread on your memories of FIFA World Cup Finals, this week’s discussion is along a similar theme – but will instead focus on the UEFA European Cup and Champions League finals.
The first European Cup final took place in 1956, with the competition then known as European Champion Clubs’ Cup – and began its life as a straightforward knockout competition, before being rebranded as the Champions League in 1992, when a group stage was also added. There have been 64 European Cup/Champions League finals to date – which are summarised below.
Some starting points for discussion are listed below, but feel free to bring whatever thoughts you have to the table about your memories of these games.
(n.b. from this point onwards I have referred to the competition as the European Cup, which includes the tournament since it was rebranded to the Champions League)
Topics for discussion:
- What has been your favourite European Cup final, and why? What was your least favourite?
- Has your team ever won the European Cup, and if so, did you watch or attend the game?
- What have been some of the most significant European Cup finals, in the history and development of the game?
- What is your favourite European Cup final goal?
- What was the biggest upset of all time in a European Cup final?
- Have you ever attended a European Cup final in person, and if so, what were your experiences and memories of the game?
